SEA-MW held its fifth annual awards gala at the Willard Intercontinental in Washington, DC on Saturday, February 26, 2011. The Association recognized Excellence in Structural Engineering by awarding competing firms with seven Outstanding Project Awards and Merit Awards, and one structural engineer with the Outstanding Achievement Award.
This year, the Awards Committee, chaired by Justin Domire of Rathgeber/Goss Associates, attracted 150 individuals to the gala. The other members of the committee were Rupa Patel of SK&A, Kate Williamson of Cagley & Associates, Kelly Dooley of Rathgeber/Goss Associates, and Nehemias Iglesias of Cagley & Associates.
As was done the previous years, judges were selected from a location outside the Washington, DC area to avoid any conflicts of interest during the judging process. The Judging Committee was comprised of five highly distinguished individuals from Houston, TX. These were Wally Ford P.E., Executive Vice President of Haynes Whaley Associates, Jay Khayrattee, P.E., Principal of Matrix Structural Engineers, Jay Nelson, Vice President of C.F. Jordan Construction, Joseph Tedesco, Ph.D., P.E., Dean of Engineering at University of Houston, and Dennis Wittry, P.E., S.E., Principal of Walter P. Moore and Associates.
The Outstanding Achievement Award went to James Madison Cutts, for his significant contributions to the structural engineering profession.
